Permanent Exhibition

상설전은 컬렉션 미술관인 구하우스의 소장품으로 이루어진 전시로, ‘집 같은 미술관’을 컨셉으로 미술과 디자인 작품들을 편안하게 감상할 수 있습니다. 세계적인 작가의 회화, 조각, 사진, 설치, 영상 등 다양한 장르의 컨템포러리 작품과 더불어 가구와 조명, 거울 등 디자인 작품들이 일상 생활 공간 같은 전시장에서 어우러져 펼쳐집니다.

이근세, 무위지향마 (無爲志向馬), 2014, FRP, Stainless Steel, 85 × 150 × 34cm

이근세 작가는 무겁고 단단한 쇠를 뜨거운 불에 달구고, 두들기며 연단하는 작업을 통해, 차가운 철의 숨겨진 속성, 즉, 따뜻하고 부드러운 특성을 드러낸다. ‘우리 시대의 대장장이’로 불리는 작가는 주변의 친근한 소재를 모티브로 소박하면서도 정감이 가는 형태로 구현하고 있다.

‘무위지향마’는 장자가 추구한 무위자연(無爲自然)의 이상향 무하유지향(無何有之鄕)에서 영감을 얻은 작품이다. 무하유지향은 끝없이 넓은 들로도 표현되며 생사, 시비, 지식, 하는 일 이 없어 행복한 장소 또는 마음의 상태를 뜻한다. 풀을 뜯고 있는 말의 형상을 하고 있는 ‘무위지향마’는 최대한 작위적 요소를 배제한 작품으로 자연스럽게 풍경의 일부가 된다.

Nicknamed a Modern-Day Blacksmith, Lee creates warm and emotional iron sculptures besides modern iron wares with traditional forging techniques.

Lee's familiar iron-forged animals, such as roosters, cats, dogs, and rabbits, are his signature works that represent the artist's humanity infused into his metalwork.

Based on Chinese philosopher Chuang-tzu's idea of 'Inaction Nature,' this site-specific work is well harmonized with the museum's natural garden, escaping from the busy modern city life.


이근세 Geun Se Lee (1971~, 한국/Korea)


수원대학교 대학과 대학원에서 조소를 전공하였다. 숙련된 솜씨로 불과 쇠를 다루는 그의 철물 작업은 생활과 예술, 생산과 창작, 노동과 아이디어가 일치하는 지점에 있다. 경기도 화성에 ‘화성공장 (Mars factory)’이라는 작업실을 운영했고, 철을 소재로 다양한 작품 활동을 하고 있다.


He received BA and MA from the University of Suwon. While he studied sculpture as an undergraduate, he was fascinated with iron as his medium as the character of iron matches his own impatient personality. He lives and works in Korea, operating his studio Mars Factory.
